Three April Birthdays

Driving through the towns and villages and across the countrysides of our beautiful nation we see many land markers that tell us stories of important events that took place at a particular point at a time in history. People who are still living go to these places and more than likely remember exactly what they were doing at the time the event occurred. Most of us have a hard time remembering what we were doing on the uneventful days of our lives. But each of us remember on the anniversary exactly what we were doing  just as fresh as the day the event happened. All of us have markers which remind us of tragedies such as the death of a parent, a spouse or a child. There are those more pleasant markers like the anniversaries of weddings, graduations, and birthdays which are occasions to celebrate.

The month of April carries three wonderful life markers for me. All three of my women were born in April. My wife and both daughters celebrate their birthdays this month. Forty six years ago today, April 2, 1973, our first daughter, Susan Starr, was born. I was just 23 years old and Sherri was only 21. What did we know about being parents to a new born baby? Speaking for myself I’ll admit I knew nothing. Poor Susan! Somehow she survived and about three years and three months later we decided to have another baby. So on April 12, 1977 Leigh Price, our second daughter, was born. God has blessed Sherri and me with two wonderful, smart, and loving women whom we love very much. Sherri’s Birthday will be on April 28. I was only a year and a half when she was born, but God knew that he made her to be my wife.

Saturday morning all of us are going to celebrate together all three birthdays. We are meeting at a restaurant in Wake Forest for brunch, and I’m sure stories will be repeated about the crazy things that were going on in our lives the two days our beautiful daughters were born.

Happy birthday today to Susan Starr.
